isn’t spring the most wonderful time of the year? so many beautiful flowers and you can almost watch them grow! i am out every day collecting herbarium specimens at the moment and dicovering the medicinal qualities of what’s growing on my doorstep – very inspiring and intriguing!

My garden after the latest rain does not look sooo lovely, heavy drops killed half of my herbs that were just starting to grow… just hoping they will get up once the sun start shining.

JOHANNA, I’m impressed with your garden activities! Sounds very interesting.
ANDREA & GANGA, this really is a tiny, trinagular (!) patch of garden. A little gone wild over the last few weeks, as you can see! But I must admit I like it like this. I know dandelions are really weeds, but I think they’re gorgreous.

ANNE, you know what? Yesterday I found a suggestion in a photo magazine to spray on some water onto plants, etc. to get this look! And I waited for the rain to finish. And then got a bit wet crouching on the floor, trying to take these photos! 😀

/ 10 May, 2010No, not at all! I didn’t use a macro lens. I have only one lens at the moment, 18 – 55 mm VR lens, which is the lens that came with the camera.
For some of the photos, I used the macro options on the camera, but most were taken in manual mode. It was a little windy though, so I chose the option where the focus follows the subject, and was impressed to see that it worked great. Especially since the camera was only hand-held, without a tripod.

/ 10 May, 2010Hi PJ, I’ve just found a post and group on Flickr about the reverse lens technique. It doesn’t seem to work with all cameras, so check the group postings. Essentially, this turns your regular lens into a macro lens.

The background blur is caused by the fast aperture setting. Also, it gets blurrier the farther it is from the subject.
