Until life moves into a slower gear and I have a chance to sit down and write some posts about my recent trip home, to Croatia, here are a few food photos.
Sweet taste of home:

Freshly made Turkish coffee every day, even half-way up the mountain! (while visiting the national park Paklenica, on the Velebit mountain)
Mum’s Kiflichi (biscuits stuffed with jam) for breakfast, or with coffee during the day
Mum’s walnut cake with lemon and rum filling that graces every family celebration (photographed in extremely bad light, at night! sorry!)

Savoury taste of home:
Cuttlefish risotto. The first time my brother M cooked for me. 🙂
Freshly picked wild asparagus (for making aspragus and prosciutto frittata and asparagus salad with eggs)

Sarma (sauerkraut leaves stuffed with beef and pork mince)

/ 26 April, 2010Everything looks so delicous. I ate risotto with cuttle fish for the first time in Rhodes, it was a shockingly black dish but very yummy once you got used to it. I will be visiting south of Croatia this summer (Bulgaria-Albania) and wonder what the similarities to Croatian cuisine will be.

/ 10 July, 2010Oh That Walnut Roll! Exactly like my Mother-In-Law from Croatia made alot for us while she was with us on this Earth.
She was always in her kitchen since she came over to Canada by herself by boat at 17 yrs. of age! in 1924.
We enjoyed alot of these wonderful foods and I would love to make that Walnut Roll for my Croatian hubby and my children and grandchildren who love everything about Croatia!
